Cognition describes the ability of the brain to pay attention, learn, remember, plan, make decisions, set goals, communicate and initiate purposeful movement.
Disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and mental health disorders can rob the brain of its ability to perform functions important in leading productive, active lives.
The array of clinical services to be offered at Parkwood Hospital and the new specialized mental health care facilities now being constructed on the same site, offers a unique opportunity for clinical research synergies among different, but related clinical and research groups. The Centre for Cognitive Vitality will be an interdisciplinary group of clinicians, researchers and other health care providers collaborating on research, education and clinical programs designed to enable prevention, early diagnosis and optimal treatment for disorders of he brain. The Centre for Cognitive Vitality will be a highly-specialized clinical and research resource available to advance the care of people at risk in Southwestern Ontario.
